Flair Gifts and Home began in 1992. The business was launched by former senior buyer for the Coles Myer Group, John Doyle, who had many years’ experience travelling globally to source the most successful gift and homewares products. In establishing Flair, John saw an opportunity in the market for decorative items to be imported to Australia. He was joined by his daughter Amanda Brandt, who has taken over the management of Flair Gifts and Home since John’s passing earlier this year, and who is continuing his love of the business and industry. AGHA caught up with Amanda to discuss Flair’s enduring popularity with retailers and what’s to come in 2021.
How do you forecast Flair’s product range for the season?
We come to know our retailers and their customers. This knowledge doesn’t just come from a spreadsheet of sales, it comes from spending time and conversing with our retailers, which is the most important part for us. Designing remotely has inspired and excited us, and really driven us to produce new ideas and work with solid sellers and to improve on current designs
Which products are best-sellers?
One of the earliest and most successful products was a brass ‘keys-n-coins’ dish. Over the years, we estimate that Flair has sold over one million pieces of this handy product and a variation of this 29-year-old product continues to sell well.
What are some of the trends you see for Christmas 2021?
With our country locked down and our population living far more at home, high-end luxury looks, texture, gold and marble are still prominent. Our acrylic glassware range in beautiful summer colours and a massive array of gorgeous picture frames and silver or stainless steel finishes never wavers in its clean and fresh popularity.
What makes Flair’s products unique and different?
We offer a vast range of high end looking pieces with a fair and honest price tag. We always look for something different and almost always change a design or create our own designs, to make them an unusual and unique piece in the Australian market.
