An Australian nurse is making it easier for women protect their skin from harmful UV rays, with suncare products that look as good as they protect.
Jillian Intini founded the Sunbella brand in 2012 with a range of personal sun umbrellas, designed especially for the Australian outdoor way of life.
“In my role as a nurse I spoke to many women with skin cancer. Of course they regretted not protecting their skin, but they would also tell me why they hadn’t; some hated hat-hair, others got too hot in long-sleeves or were allergic to sunscreens,” says Jillian.
“It struck a chord with me. Our relaxed Summer lifestyle is largely based outdoors; we should be able to feel good whilst also protecting our skin.”

Jillian hopes that Sunbella will help to change peoples attitudes to sun safety, with products that make it easier to incorporate sun-protection into their every-day habits. And it seems to be working; the business has had 200% sales growth year on year since it’s inception 5 years ago. They won the 2015 AusMumpreneur Award for Business Excellence, the Stirling Micro-Business Award and have been touted by the Duchess of Cornwall – a feat which saw sales sky-rocket in the weeks following.
“I believe that women want to do the right thing by their skin. We’re just bridging the gap between functional sun-protection tools and fashionable, wearable garments. We’re offering a solution that will help them feel beautiful at the time, and stay beautiful and healthy in the long run.” said Jillian.
