Thanks to HKTDC, BenElke founder Lisa Joseph will enjoy a sponsored buying mission valued at more than $6000 for the upcoming HKTDC Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair. The prize includes a complimentary round-trip to Hong Kong plus 3 nights accommodation in this exciting international city.
As a guest at HKTDC’s trade only exhibition at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Lisa will also receive privileged access to the HKTDC business matching service and the exclusive VIP lounge, invitations to official functions and more!
Here, we speak with Lisa Joseph about her win.
Why was winning this trip to HKTDC important to BenElke?
“As a small business, we love to visit international trade fairs, but our budget doesn’t always allow it. Winning this trip has removed those constraints and will help us develop new business relationships with international supply partners internationally. A huge thanks to HKTDC and AGHA!”
Can you explain why trade fairs are such an important function for your business?
“Firstly, it’s important to see what’s happening in our field globally. We are lucky to have a very unique product, there is really nothing else quite like it in the market anywhere. Having this opportunity to see where we fit on the international stage helps us to better assess potential export markets and develop a strategy to achieve those goals.”
How would you describe the response of buyers to BenElke at AGHA Sydney Gift Fair?
“The response we received at AGHA Sydney Fair exceeded our expectations. It was our first time exhibiting with AGHA and we were delighted with the return on our investment. As well as lots of orders from both new stores and our existing stockists, we had a significant lead with a large international department store and a potential collaboration with an Australian fashion label.”
What would you like buyers to know about the BenElke brand?
“In addition to our product range, buyers love our story. The majority of our range, including our iconic lunch bags, are manufactured in Sydney by adults with disabilities or on the autism spectrum. The providence of goods is becoming increasingly important for consumers and they are looking to retailers to make more informed and socially responsible choices. Importantly, the product must still be a beautiful and desirable item. Our range is gorgeous, practical and fun, with a feel-good foundation.”
Have you travelled to Hong Kong before? What are you most looking forward to while you’re there?
“We haven’t been to Hong Kong for almost 20 years! I’m sure it’s changed a lot. Apart from the HKTDC Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair, we are excited to immerse ourselves into the food culture and soak in some views from the skybars.”
Do you have any other exciting news that you’d like to share?
“We’re really excited to have just expanded our Australian manufacturing remit. We now have a second sewing facility in Newcastle with a delightful team who are helping us meet demand. Despite difficulties and rising costs associated with Australian Made product we really believe in helping a marginalised group in our own community reach their full potential and lead happy, full lives.”
The HKTDC Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair is held 27-30 April 2019 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
