Sarah Castelino reveals what’s to come for Kangaroo Gifts at AGHA Sydney Gift Fair.
AGHA Sydney Gift Fair is excited to welcome Kangaroo Gifts as a new exhibitor in February 2018. The Melbourne-based business combines Indigenous art with cotton and premium leather handicrafts to offer an exceptionally unique fusion of cultures.
Established in 1958, Kangaroo Gifts offers authentic, contemporary merchandise and souvenirs commissioned from local Indigenous artists.
It aims to support these individual artists and their communities by contributing ongoing royalties for the exclusive use of their art.
Speaking to the Australian Gift & Homewares Association (AGHA), director Sarah Castelino said retail buyers can expect bold new abstract designs from existing artists, as well as the launch of the Diwana Dreaming collection from new artist Nathan Patterson and a new line of colourful men’s accessories that are sure to stand out.
“We commission young Indigenous artists to tell their story in a very youthful and contemporary style, which is the main attraction of these products. By purchasing from Kangaroo Gifts, you are investing in the future of these artists and their growth,” Castelino explained.
“We believe you are not just purchasing a leather item, you are purchasing “Wearable Art” made from natural materials. Our products are completely original and designed solely by us – we do not believe in copying others!”
Castelino added that Kangaroo Gifts had selected to display at AGHA Sydney Gift Fair in order to expose the brand to a much wider market and meet new buyers from New South Wales and beyond, including stockists such as tourist outlets, information centres, boutiques, newsagents, gift and souvenir shops.
“Exhibiting at trade events is very important for our business because it both allows us to meet new customers and further develop relationships with existing customers,” she said.
“It’s very important for retail buyers to see our entire range and see the quality of our products for themselves. We also like to provide our customers with an interactive experience by flying our artists down for the event to talk about the significance of their art.”
